The Hong Kong Academy of Wealth Legacy has introduced the "Inspiring Asia Micro Film Festival" to encourage young people and institutions to showcase the diverse aspects of the community through micro films.

On April 30, 2026, the Hong Kong Academy of Wealth Legacy (HKAWL) announced the official introduction of the pan-Asian short film festival "Inspiring Asia" and launched its Hong Kong competition. This year's event, themed "Community Empowerment," encourages young creators and local organizations to document community stories through the lens, thereby fostering cross-sector dialogue and inspiring deeper social engagement.

The Hong Kong competition of the short film festival will have HKAWL as the "Regional Chief Partner" and partner with the social enterprise Under Production as the "Execution Partner." Together, they will promote local publicity, recruitment, and project execution.

Building Bridges Between Family Philanthropy and Local Organizations

This short film festival is the annual flagship event of the Academy's philanthropic initiative Impact Link (iLink). iLink aims to guide asset owners in practicing strategic philanthropy by providing learning opportunities and connecting them with impactful charitable projects. iLink has observed that family foundations commonly face two major challenges: first, helping their funded non-governmental organizations (NGOs) attract other philanthropic capital; second, establishing difficult yet transformative funding collaborative relationships with other philanthropists. Effective communication is precisely the common need for both funders and NGOs to address these two challenges.

The Academy hopes to use "storytelling"—this profound, multi-dimensional medium—to build communication bridges for all parties in the philanthropic ecosystem. The short film festival will act as a catalyst, inspiring and connecting the "next generation" members of families, enabling them to access meaningful philanthropic projects on a large scale. Furthermore, the produced short films will form a sustainable multimedia asset library, whose value far exceeds any single exchange event. They can be repeatedly used for public education and promotional activities, continuously raising social awareness of important issues and NGOs.

Competition to Include Three Major Award Categories with a Total Prize Pool of USD 30,000

As a cross-regional joint competition, the "Inspiring Asia 2026 Short Film Festival" Hong Kong competition features three major award categories: Best Short Film, Best Project, and Best Artificial Intelligence (AI) Film.

Supported by the Asia Community Foundation, the Hong Kong competition has a special prize pool totaling USD 30,000. Each award category will select one winner and five finalists. From these 18 outstanding individuals, representatives will be chosen to advance to the pan-Asian stage, competing with elites from other regions to present Hong Kong's vibrant community stories to audiences across Asia.
