Retail investor mentality:
1. When the stock goes up: Awesome, awesome, my eye is really good.
2. When the stock goes down: Damn, got screwed by the institutions again, someone is manipulating the stock, pumping and dumping. There's a script.
Anyway, making money is skill, losing money is getting scammed....
You can suspect market manipulation by institutions for small-cap stocks with low market caps. But for stocks with market caps in the hundreds of billions or trillions, which institution has that kind of capital to manipulate the market... If an institution could do that, wouldn't they already be the undisputed number one in the world... Institutions are in competition with each other, some buy, some sell. If they were to manipulate, they'd target their competitors, what does that have to do with retail investors...
