US media: US military deploys Marine Expeditionary Unit to the Middle East
Two US officials stated that as Iran intensifies attacks on the Strait of Hormuz, the Pentagon is deploying a Marine Expeditionary Unit to the Middle East. Officials said that Defense Secretary Haggeseth has approved a request from the US Central Command to deploy this expeditionary force, which typically consists of up to 2,500 Marines. This move comes as Iran's attacks on the strait have nearly paralyzed shipping in this strategic waterway, impacting the global economy, driving up gasoline prices, and presenting significant military and political challenges for Donald Trump. A Pentagon spokesperson declined to comment.
