Cash Plus Booster
Feed Explorer$Amazon(AMZN.US) has been held for over a year, and I've done some day trading with it. Today, I sold it all at my cost basis of 201. It's almost one of the stocks I've held the longest. I know it's a good company and a good stock, and it might even reach 300 in less than two or three months, but I still decided to clear my position.
I will also continue to liquidate other individual stocks, replacing them all with broad market index ETFs and sector ETFs.
I probably won't buy many individual stocks in the future, only purchasing ETFs and keeping 20%→50% cash based on market valuations.
Since reading some investment books, I've increasingly felt I'm not very good at this. I think the only way I can make money is through macro awareness. For example: if I'm bullish on the US, I buy QQQ; if I'm bullish on Japan, I buy the Nikkei index; the big five; if I'm bullish on India, I buy an India ETF, etc.
Here's something funny: another account that I don't touch at all, which I call my "old man account," has actually outperformed the Nasdaq for two consecutive years. How ironic!
