Traded ValueHumanity's two fatal weaknesses! Overestimating oneself + forgetting the pain while remembering the gain😭
It's hilarious how humans share these common flaws! On one hand, we wildly overestimate our abilities; on the other, we treat historical lessons as background noise, repeatedly stepping into the same pitfalls without learning. Does this sound like you?
Who hasn't suffered from the arrogance of "I can definitely do this"? Buying stocks thinking you can time the market perfectly, only to get trapped in losses; making plans while swearing "this time I'll stick to it," then reverting to old habits within days; even believing "I can avoid the pitfalls others fell into," only to repeat their mistakes. Simply put, human nature comes with a built-in "blind confidence filter"—we always think we're the chosen ones who can defy rules and control everything, forgetting that "there's always someone better and skies beyond skies." Overestimating ourselves only leads to harder falls.
Even worse is our "remember the gain, forget the pain" amnesia! Haven't we seen enough historical speculative bubbles burst? Yet people still insist "this time is different," diving headfirst into scams; watching others lose money from impulsive decisions, then making the same mistakes themselves; even forgetting the pitfalls we personally stumbled into not long ago. It's not that history's lessons aren't profound—it's our delusional hope that "it won't happen to me," crediting success to skill and blaming failure on bad luck, leading us to trip over the same spot again and again.
At their core, these two weaknesses are the same: taking ourselves too seriously while dismissing universal rules. Overestimating our abilities blinds us to objective laws; ignoring history's lessons dooms us to repeat past mistakes. Whether in stocks, work, or life, true wisdom isn't about feeling invincible—it's about recognizing our limits, respecting principles, and learning from experience.
May we all be less arrogant and more clear-headed, no longer dragged down by "overestimating ourselves" and "forgetting the lessons."
