DXYZ is a closed-end fund that trades on exchanges but represents a portfolio or a basket of securities rather than a company. Therefore, it is a fund but differs from traditional "open-end" mutual funds or ETFs. This difference stems from the fact that closed-end funds have a fixed number of shares, so the basic concept of supply and demand is a significant factor. The fundamental value of the securities in DXYZ's portfolio (i.e., these 100 private companies) is not "marked to market" daily.

The fund aims to reach a target of 100 companies, although currently, the fund holds only about a quarter of that number. These are all pre-IPO companies, and the DXYZ website claims that "for many companies in the pre-IPO stage, there is indeed the potential for returns of 10x to 50x."

What is the potential growth of DXYZ?

AI is the future, but we don’t know which path it will take. There will be winners, big winners, and losers. Perhaps the appealing feature of DXYZ lies in the nature of private equity investment itself. Traditional equity investment focuses on diversification to mitigate risk. If you spread the risk across 100+ companies, it might only take a few companies to scale up enough to offset any failures among the rest of the group.
