Reuters story on China building an EUV lithography machine is interesting, but such claims are frequent. Building the supply chain will be much harder than one prototype. Key sentence: "To get the required parts, China is salvaging components from older ASML machines and sourcing parts from ASML suppliers through secondhand markets..." China is throwing $ hundreds of billions at building a chip industry, more than enough to buy parts or full machines. The report says they are targeting working chips in 2030. From one machine? Mass production requires dozens of EUV machines. Example: 3nm 15-25 layer chip needs 10-16 machines for 25,000 wafers per month. The cost of this 'China Manhattan Project' must be mind blowing. $ASML(ASML.US) #Semiconductors
