According to the ranking of Chinese game developers and app overseas revenue released by data.ai in July 2023, miHoYo and TENCENT still firmly hold the top two positions, while there have been some changes in the rankings of the remaining eight companies in the top ten.
According to Dolphin Research's report released in July 2023, miHoYo and Tencent (00700) continue to dominate the top two spots in the ranking of Chinese game developers and app overseas revenue. However, there have been some changes in the rankings of the remaining eight companies in the top ten: 37 Interactive Entertainment (002555.SZ), DianDian Interactive, Kemuyouxi, Youxing Network, and NTES-S have all moved up compared to the previous month. RPG and strategy games remain the main sources of revenue growth for overseas publishers.
data.ai summarized that normalized operations have become the engine driving revenue growth. Tencent and miHoYo still occupy the top three spots in the overseas revenue ranking of Chinese mobile games, with PUBG MOBILE, Honkai: Star Rail, and Genshin Impact ranking in that order. After version updates and a Dragon Ball collaboration event, PUBG MOBILE experienced significant revenue growth in July, rising to the first place. Another game that climbed the rankings due to revenue generated from events is Blue Archive published by Youxing Network. It has been proven that version updates and normalized operations have significantly helped generate revenue for products.
This period saw two new entries in the Top 30 overseas revenue ranking for mobile games. They are Harry Potter Magic Awakened and Undawn. Both games were globally released last month and have shown great potential as new games.
In addition, MicroFun and iQiyi performed exceptionally well in the overseas revenue ranking for companies, both rising by 4 places. The former took the lead in the synthesis game category, with games like Gossip Harbor and Merge County, which combine storyline and simulation decoration elements, steadily generating revenue and securing the 19th spot on the list. The latter successfully landed in the 4X strategy game track with Wolf Game and achieved impressive results in the US and Japanese markets, currently ranking 28th.
