Top 20 U.S. Stock Trading Volume on July 30: SK Hynix's profit growth falls short of expectations, plans to increase capital expenditure
On July 30th, among the top 20 stocks by trading volume in the US market, chip stocks such as Micron Technology, NVIDIA, and Sandisk generally declined, with Micron closing down 10.07%. SK Hynix will expand capital expenditure due to profit growth falling short of expectations. Tech giants like AMD, Intel, and Tesla also experienced varying degrees of pullback, with market focus concentrated on the performance of the chip sector and the latest product and project developments of major companies
On Wednesday, Micron Technology, the top stock by trading volume in the U.S. market, fell 10.07%, with a trading volume of $51.6 billion. This marks the third consecutive trading day of decline for the stock. The semiconductor storage sector in the U.S. market generally declined on Wednesday.
NVIDIA, in second place, dropped 3.55%, trading at $275.23. The stock has recorded declines on four out of the last five trading days.
In third place, SanDisk fell 7.32%, with a trading volume of $24.623 billion. The storage chip sector in the U.S. market generally fell on Wednesday. By the close on Wednesday, the stock had declined for four consecutive trading days, with a total drop of 36.9% over those four days.
In sixth place, AMD fell 5.51%, with a trading volume of $13.897 billion. Reports on Wednesday indicated that AMD launched ROCm.ai to accelerate AI development on the AMD platform.
Additionally, sources revealed that AMD confirmed the 4GB memory version of the Radeon RX 9050 graphics card was developed specifically for partner systems, with no plans to sell the 4GB version outside of OEM systems. Unlike other downgraded versions with half the maximum memory capacity, the 4GB version of the Radeon RX 9050 has only half the memory bandwidth of the 8GB version, which theoretically leads to significant performance losses.
In seventh place, Intel fell 5.12%, with a trading volume of $11.59 billion. Intel announced the completion of the U.S. Department of Defense's RAMP-C program. This program utilizes Intel's 18A process to help commercial and defense customers build chip design environments, chip testing, and early product prototype validation.
The completion of the RAMP-C program lays the foundation for Intel's subsequent entry into the Secure Enclave secure manufacturing project.
In eighth place, Tesla fell 2.97%, with a trading volume of $11.59 billion. Musk stated on Tuesday that xAI's next-generation large model, Grok 4.6, is expected to be released around August 7, with a parameter scale reaching 1.5 trillion, and significant improvements in supervised fine-tuning (SFT) and reinforcement learning (RL). Musk mentioned that Grok 4.7 will be launched a few weeks after Grok 4.6, with a parameter scale expected to reach 2.1 trillion. Compared to Grok 4.6, Grok 4.7 will further enhance various aspects, but the service speed will be slightly slower, while achieving higher token usage efficiency.
In eleventh place, Google's Class A shares rose 0.90%, with a trading volume of $9.036 billion. According to media reports on Wednesday, Google DeepMind has disbanded the dedicated team that developed AlphaFold. Most researchers have been reassigned to projects such as Gemini, AI programming, genomics, enzyme design, and nuclear fusion, while some have moved to Alphabet's AI pharmaceutical company, Isomorphic Labs. Just two years ago, the star project team that helped DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis and project leader John Jumper win the Nobel Prize in Chemistry was disbanded AlphaFold once had an interdisciplinary team composed of machine learning researchers, structural biologists, and engineers. With the completion of AlphaFold 3 development, this team gradually lost its independent structure, and members were dispersed to different projects within Google DeepMind. Google has not disclosed a complete list of the adjustments and has not referred to this change as layoffs.
SK Hynix, ranked 12th, fell 2.60%, with a trading volume of $8.309 billion. SK Hynix released its first post-IPO financial report on July 29, showing that operating profit in the first half of the year increased more than fivefold year-on-year, but fell short of expectations, leading to a drop in stock price. Revenue for the second quarter was 79.32 trillion won, with a net profit of 93.92 trillion won, a quarter-on-quarter increase of 133%. The company stated that DRAM and NAND prices continued to rise, and sales of HBM, AI server DRAM, and enterprise SSDs drove record profits.
Despite market concerns about a slowdown in AI investment, the company believes that demand will continue to expand, and the supply-demand imbalance is unlikely to improve significantly in the short term. Due to early production and expanded investment, capital expenditures are expected to exceed 40 trillion won by 2026. The company is advancing M15X mass production and the construction of the Yongin cluster, emphasizing adherence to investment principles while seizing growth opportunities, balancing capacity expansion and financial stability.

On July 29, TSMC announced that following a magnitude 7 earthquake in the Kumamoto region of Japan, inspections and equipment calibration at its local factory are expected to take some time. The company is currently inspecting equipment and carrying out recovery work, with water supply, power supply, and safety systems in the factory operating normally. TSMC has allocated resources to support its Japanese operations, and the supply of raw materials is continuing, with post-earthquake inspections confirming the structural safety of the factory buildings. TSMC also stated that the construction site of the second factory was unaffected, and construction work resumed on the same day after inspections were completed.
