Meituan conference call: Expect Q2 takeaway user experience to be significantly better than Q1
Meituan stated in its Q1 earnings call that as industry subsidies are optimized and competition shifts towards efficiency and experience, the lead in takeaway user experience (UE) is expanding. Management expects that if the competitive environment remains rational and combined with the seasonal effects of Q2, the takeaway UE in Q2 will be significantly better than in Q1. CEO Wang Xing emphasized that he believes regulatory guidance will bring the industry back to rationality, and the company is confident in maintaining operational efficiency leadership to ensure long-term stable competitiveness, and expects that long-term UE will return to a reasonable level
On June 1st, Meituan released its Q1 2026 performance. In this quarter, Meituan achieved revenue of 91 billion yuan (RMB, the same below), a year-on-year increase of 5.6%, and operating losses decreased from 16.1 billion yuan in the previous quarter to 6.5 billion yuan. Since the first quarter, Meituan has further consolidated its leading position in the mid-to-high value takeaway order market and continued to expand its leading advantage in user experience (UE) over similar platforms. If the competitive environment remains rational, combined with the peak season effect in Q2, it is expected that Q2 takeaway UE will be significantly better than Q1. Meituan CEO Wang Xing stated: "We believe that with the continued guidance of regulations, industry competition will gradually return to rationality. We are confident in maintaining our leading advantage in operational efficiency, ensuring long-term and stable competitiveness in the industry. We also believe that our long-term UE will return to a reasonable level."
