Amazon launches online car shopping service Amazon Auto to compete with Costco
Amazon has launched an online car shopping service, Amazon Auto, in 48 cities across the United States, aiming to compete with Costco's car purchasing program. The service will provide an online shopping experience for Hyundai dealerships, allowing users to search for vehicles by brand, model, and more, while offering instant valuations and financing options. Amazon plans to expand to more manufacturers and features by 2025. Costco's car program collaborates with over 3,000 dealerships, while Walmart's car service is relatively underdeveloped
According to Zhitong Finance APP, Amazon (AMZN.US) officially launched the Amazon Auto service in 48 cities in the United States on Tuesday, aiming to compete with Costco's (COST.US) popular car purchasing program.
It is reported that Amazon Auto will initially offer online car shopping services from Hyundai dealerships in major metropolitan areas across the United States. By 2025, Amazon plans to introduce more manufacturers, brands, cities, and new features for its online car purchasing program.
The Amazon Auto online experience will allow users to browse and search for available vehicles at local dealerships by brand, model, trim, color, and features. Customers can also receive instant valuations and trade in their existing vehicles for new ones. The program features transparent pricing and allows for financing options.
Amazon Auto CEO Fan Jin stated, "We are working with dealers and brands to redesign car shopping to make it more transparent, convenient, and customer-friendly."
It is understood that Costco's car program allows members to purchase new and certified pre-owned vehicles. The program collaborates with a network of over 3,000 dealerships in the United States. Meanwhile, Walmart (WMT.US) also offers car purchasing services, but it is not as mature as Costco's. Walmart's service primarily acts as a facilitator, guiding customers to local dealerships without a structured program like Costco's
