Bank of China "officially announces" new president, Zhang Hui takes office
On December 2, 2024, Bank of China officially announced that Zhang Hui would serve as the new president and nominated him as a candidate for executive director and vice chairman. Zhang Hui graduated from Shaanxi University of Finance and Economics in 1993 and has worked for many years at Bank of Communications, ultimately serving as vice president of the China Development Bank. On the evening of December 2, Bank of China announced that the 11th board meeting of 2024 was held in Beijing on December 2, 2024, through on-site voting. The meeting was chaired by Chairman Ge Haijiao, with 13 directors required to attend and all 13 directors present. Members of the supervisory board and senior management attended the meeting.
The directors present at the meeting reviewed and voted by name to approve the proposal to appoint Zhang Hui as the president of the bank, nominate Zhang Hui as a candidate for executive director, and elect Mr. Zhang Hui as the vice chairman of the bank and a member of the Strategic Development Committee.
Zhang Hui's qualification to serve as the president of the bank is subject to approval by the National Financial Regulatory Administration.
Public information shows that Zhang Hui was born in 1972 and graduated from Shaanxi University of Finance and Economics (now Xi'an Jiaotong University) in 1993 with a bachelor's degree in economics. He joined Bank of China in 2024.
Zhang Hui previously worked at Bank of Communications for many years. From November 2016 to February 2017, he served as the president of the Guizhou Branch of Bank of Communications. From February 2017 to February 2019, he served as the general manager of the Risk Management Department (Asset Protection Department) of Bank of Communications. From February 2019 to November 2020, he served as the general manager of the Risk Management Department and director of the Internal Control Case Prevention Office of Bank of Communications. From July 2020 to November 2020, he served as the Chief Risk Officer of Bank of Communications. He has also held positions such as assistant general manager, deputy general manager, deputy general manager (acting), general manager, deputy general manager of the Risk Management Department (Asset Protection Department), vice president of the Shanghai Branch, and vice president of the Guizhou Branch (acting as president) at Bank of Communications. From November 2020 to November 2024, Zhang Hui served as the vice president of the China Development Bank.
