According to the financial news app Zhitong Finance, artificial intelligence chip giant NVIDIA (NVDA.US) will announce its financial results for the second quarter of fiscal year 2025 after the US stock market closes on August 23 (Wednesday). Wall Street analysts expect NVIDIA's Q2 revenue to increase by 113% year-on-year to $28.84 billion, and net profit to increase by 142% year-on-year to $14.95 billion.
Benefiting from strong demand for artificial intelligence chips, NVIDIA's revenue in the first quarter reached $26 billion, a year-on-year increase of 262%, higher than the market's expected $24.7 billion; net profit was $14.88 billion, a year-on-year increase of 628%; earnings per share excluding certain items were $6.12, higher than the market's expected $5.65.
With the ongoing trend of artificial intelligence, investors will pay special attention to NVIDIA's data center business. The revenue of this business in the first quarter reached a record $22.6 billion. Analysts currently expect the revenue of this business in the second quarter to more than double year-on-year to $25.19 billion, setting a new historical high.
Analysts predict that NVIDIA's strong growth momentum will continue. Aarin Chiekrie, a stock analyst at Hargreaves Lansdown, said, "Companies like Meta, Amazon, and Microsoft are all NVIDIA's customers, they are financially strong and hope to use NVIDIA's leading artificial intelligence chips to develop their own AI products." The analyst stated that he believes the market's forecast of doubling NVIDIA's second-quarter revenue and operating profit seems "achievable", so investors may pay special attention to the company's prospects for the remainder of this fiscal year.
Earlier this month, NVIDIA informed its customers that the new Blackwell B200 chip will be delayed for three months or longer, with mass shipments delayed until next year's Q1. The Blackwell chip was originally scheduled to begin mass production in October 2024, and if delayed until April 2025, it will directly impact NVIDIA's quarterly revenue.
In response, NVIDIA told the media that the strong demand for the Hopper chip and the production plan for the Blackwell chip have not changed. This means that even if the B200 is delayed, the impact on NVIDIA's revenue may not be particularly significant, as the market demand for the Hopper chip remains strong. Some analysts also believe that the delay in mass shipments of the Blackwell B200 chip will not have a significant impact on customers, and NVIDIA's management expects to downplay market speculation about delayed shipments
