Apple is developing new iPhone battery technology with a more user-friendly and replaceable design
Apple is researching new iPhone battery technology to make battery replacement easier. They are developing a new inductive adhesive bonding technology, where users only need to apply a small current for the battery to detach from the chassis. This technology may be used in the upcoming iPhone 16 and potentially in all models of the iPhone in 2025. This move is part of Apple's ongoing efforts to make self-repair of devices easier. Apple has already launched self-repair software in 32 European countries and provides a battery replacement option. It is expected that Apple will showcase the latest iPhone in September
According to the latest information from Zhitong Finance and Economics APP, it is reported that Apple (AAPL.US) is researching new technology for iPhone batteries to make battery replacement easier.
The report states that Apple is developing a new induction adhesive debonding technology, where users only need to apply a small current to the battery to detach it from the chassis.
Citing sources involved in iPhone manufacturing, the report adds that this new technological approach may be used in an upcoming model of iPhone, widely expected to be the iPhone 16 and possibly in all models of iPhones in 2025.
To accommodate this technology, the battery of iPhone 16 features a unique metal casing design, departing from the previous soft foil packaging used for iPhone batteries.
Apple and its battery supplier TDK have not immediately responded to requests for comments.
In recent years, Apple has been committed to making self-repair of devices easier. Earlier this week, the tech giant announced that its self-repair software is now available in 32 European countries, including the UK, France, Germany, and the Netherlands.
Currently, Apple offers a battery replacement option for its iPhones at a cost of $99.
Under pressure from legislators worldwide, Apple introduced the self-repair option for iPhones for the first time in 2022. The company has expanded this option to other devices like Macs and gradually rolled out the service to multiple countries, starting from the US and then expanding to Europe.
It is widely expected that this tech giant will unveil its latest iPhone in September
