Apple is catching up in the field of AI.
According to media reports, Apple will introduce a new set of AI tools at the 35th Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC24) next month, named Project Greymatter, mainly targeting core applications such as Safari, Photos, and Notes, as well as some operating system functions.
It is reported that Apple will implement Project Greymatter in iOS 18 and macOS 15. New features include: voice-to-memo, AI photo editing, Spotlight search optimization, Safari web search improvements, automatic email/sms replies suggestions, and intelligent summary generation. In addition, Siri personal assistant will be upgraded to provide a more natural interactive experience and create custom emojis using generative AI technology.
Project Greymatter will be based on the "edge-cloud collaboration" architecture, adopting a hybrid AI model combining cloud and edge terminal, supporting most device-side operations through self-developed chips, as well as providing support for cloud computing through data center's M2 Ultra chip.
Apple also promises that cloud AI functions will not infringe on user privacy.
In addition, Apple seems to be betting on the AI chatbot field. Wall Street News previously mentioned that Apple has reportedly reached an agreement with OpenAI to introduce ChatGPT technology in the new operating system iOS 18 to enhance Siri's conversational experience.
Some opinions point out that although Apple's efforts in the field of AI came relatively late, its massive user base is a major advantage for the company.
It is suggested that after the launch of the new iOS 18 this year, there will be hundreds of millions of Apple devices worldwide supporting AI functions, which could potentially make Apple the biggest player in AI overnight
