Research institution: Amazon Prime membership in the United States reaches 180 million, hitting a record high
Amazon's Prime subscription service reached 180 million American shoppers in March, an 8% increase from the same period last year. This growth indicates that despite facing competition from other companies, Amazon's fast delivery service still holds strong appeal. Currently, 75% of American shoppers are Prime members, demonstrating that Amazon is still attracting new users
Intelligent Finance APP noted that according to data from Consumer Intelligence Research Partners, Amazon's Prime subscription service in the US reached a new high of 180 million American shoppers in March, an 8% increase from the same period last year. The company has been tracking Amazon members since 2014.
This growth indicates that despite increasing online competition from companies like Walmart, TikTok Shop, Shein, and Temu, Amazon's rapid delivery commitment for various goods still holds strong appeal for shoppers dealing with inflation.
American consumers pay $140 annually or $15 monthly for Amazon's Prime subscription, which includes shipping discounts and ad-supported Prime Video streaming service.
After the outbreak of the pandemic, the growth of Prime members slowed down, and Consumer Intelligence Research predicted last year that this online retailer would enter a stable period. The latest data shows that 75% of American shoppers have Prime membership, clearly indicating that Amazon is still attracting new users.
The research company stated in its report on Tuesday that this growth indicates that American consumers believe "their shopping habits on Amazon prove that their investment in Prime membership is reasonable."
The company measures the number of Prime members, which is more than the actual number of subscriptions sold by Amazon. Prime memberships are typically shared by household members, all of whom are counted by the organization.
Amazon announced in 2021 that it has 200 million Prime members worldwide, which was the last time the company disclosed the subscription numbers. Amazon reports subscription service revenue every quarter, with most of it coming from Prime services. Analysts estimate that as of March 31, Amazon's subscription service revenue will grow by 12% to reach $10.8 billion
