After releasing the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 earlier this week, Qualcomm has now introduced the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3
The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 supports generative artificial intelligence on devices, such as image and voice assistants, compatible with large language models (LLMs) including Gemini Nano, Baichuan-7B, Llama 2, and Zhipu ChatGLM. OnePlus will be one of the first partners to adopt the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3
After releasing the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 earlier this week, Qualcomm unveiled another chip on Thursday: the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3.
According to reports, following last year's Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, Qualcomm has been working to bring high-end flagship features to a broader range of product lines. Of note, the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 supports on-device generative AI for tasks like image and voice assistants, with compatibility for large language models (LLMs) including Gemini Nano, Baidu-7B, Llama 2, and Zhipu ChatGLM.
The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3, built on a 4nm process, features a Prime Cortex-X4 (up to 2.8 GHz), four performance cores (2.6 GHz), and three efficiency cores (1.9 GHz). These chips are targeted at high-end smartphones.
Compared to the 7+ Gen 2, the Kryo CPU (Geekbench 6 multi-thread) performance has improved by 15%, Adreno GPU (GFX Aztec Ruins 1080p) performance has increased by 45%, while power efficiency has improved by 5%.
In terms of connectivity, Wi-Fi 7 will be introduced to the 7 series through FastConnect 7800, and the Snapdragon X63 5G modem supports 3GPP Release 17.
For gaming, the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 features a "gaming post-processing accelerator" that provides effects like "ambient occlusion, depth, and motion blur," while the Adreno Frame Motion Engine 2.0 "enhances content at double the frame rate without power consumption."
Photography using the Spectra 18-bit triple cognitive ISP (up to 200MP) is a key highlight, with features like semantic segmentation (for identifying layers: faces, hair, clothing, sky, etc.) and low-light vision.
OnePlus will be one of the first partners to adopt the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3, with realme and SHARP joining in the "coming months."
Qualcomm's stock price rose 1.59% in Thursday's trading session, closing at $173.04. Year-to-date, Qualcomm has risen over 20%.
